Ilm Circle Reflection: Priorities

A Team Al-Fajr Reflection

Last week’s ilm circle was an eye-opening reminder as to our true purpose. One of the things that stood out to me was Dr. Syed’s story of the woman who disregarded her baby’s healthy development, despite being a professional in the field for the sake of her job. It scared me because, as a female university student with different priorities I don’t really think of how my decisions now will affect my family as well. It was a much needed reminder to build a stronger relationship with my family because I do not wish to reach a point where I didn’t give them a thought because I was ‘busy.’ That also relates to my next point: community.

The second thing I found interesting in the ilm circle was the importance of community. The adab reminder did a really good job of showing practical ways that we can build a stronger community, & in class we learned why it’s not just good for us, it’s integral. I recently read the book Crossroads by one of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash survivors & was surprised by what kind of community they created as a hockey team. And for Muslims, our communities should be so impactful because we are doing it for the sake of Allah SWT.

In summary, the Ilm circle talked about when we take our responsibilities seriously and we make our intentions for Allah s.w.t, we will see the baraka in our time, health (especially mental health), rizq…etc.

Last week’s halaqa tied these different ideas together so nicely!
